Dell XPS M1330 Video problem and Solution


The Dell XPS M1330 is a great little machine. It is a super powerful laptop for it's size. It come in many different colors and themes. It is light weight and gets great battery life.

The Problem...
If you have purchased one of these laptops with the NVidia discrete video card you may or most likely will develop this problem. There was a flaw in the design of the NVidia video chips that were put in these machines. The video chip is being pushed too hard and the laptop cannot keep it cool enough. Eventually the chip burns out and your display looks like this.








The video chip is part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced. The only solution is to replace the entire motherboard. This is not cheap, around $319.95 or more at other sites. On top of it all, you will be replacing it with the same type of motherboard that will eventually have the video card over heat and burn out again.

The solution...
Most people do not know this but there is another motherboard that can be installed in the XPS M1330 that does not have any problems and is usually cheaper in price to purchase. It is the Dell XPS M1330 motherboard with Intel integrated video. There is only one other part that will need to be purchased to make this M1330 motherboard compatible. It is the video/CPU cooling fan and heatsink assembly.
