Austin TX, Silicon Hills, ATX -- A Microsoft retail store is coming to Austin, also known as Silicon Hills. Speeding-up the Internet

Microsoft and Google plan to speed-up the web in cooperation with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The plan is to create a faster Hypertext Transfer Protocol, HTTP 2.0. Microsoft's approach is simply called "HTTP Speed+Mobility". HTTP protocol is the language used when a browser talks to an internet server.

Another candidate for HTTP 2.0 is Google's SPDY protocol, also known as "speedy". The final version of the new HTTP 2.0 protocol will probably be an evolved blend, using ideas from numerous sources as the IETF evaluates speed gains.

Windows 8 Release Date

Windows 8 release date is expected in October according to a report by Bloomberg. Representing the most crucial and radical redesign of Windows since Win 95, a new retro-looking logo will accompany it. Apparently Asus, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Lenovo and Nokia will be early adopters.

Most of the new Win 8 devices will be tablets and PCs running on AMD and Intel processors. Some, however, will be tablets operating on WoA (Windows on ARM). WoA tablets will run chips partially designed by UK-based ARM, and manufactured by Texas Instruments, Nvidia, and Qualcomm.

ARM stands for the term Advanced RISC Machine. RISC is an acronym for Reduced Instruction Set Computer. Acorn Computers, Apple, and VLSI Technology, established ARM Inc. as Advanced RISC Machines in 1990.

Pixel Density Better than iPad's "Retina" Display Supported by Win 8

Microsoft is supporting a Windows 8 web-page that instructs developers how to revise iPad software into Metro style applications, and points them to a page telling them how they can get paid for doing that. Another posting shows that tablets running Windows 8 can support maximum screen pixel density higher than the new iPad's "retina" display. Win 8 supports a maximum density of 291ppi (pixels per inch), which exceeds even the new iPad's density of 264ppi.

IDC Expects Windows 8 to Boost PC Sales

The upcoming lifeline of PC market share may be Windows 8, according to market research firm, IDC. Jay Chou, senior research analyst for IDC reports: "Windows 8 and Ultrabooks are a definitive step in the right direction to recapturing the relevance of the PC, but its promise of meshing a tablet experience with a PC body will likely entail a period of trial and error, thus the market will likely see modest growth in the near term." IDC said: ...."end user surveys tell us that few people consider media tablets as replacements for their PCs, so later this year when there is a new Microsoft operating system, available in sleek new PC form factors, we believe consumer interest in PCs will begin to rebound".
