  • 1 x small flat head screwdriver
  • 1 x small plastic scribe

Installation and Removal Instructions
Dell Inspiron N5040 / N5050 / M5040 DC Jack

Slide the battery latch to the left and the battery out.

Step 1

  • Slide the locking latch over.
  • Slide the battery latch to the left and the battery out.

Under the battery, remove the hinge cover screw.

Step 2

  • Under the battery, remove the hinge cover screw.
Using a scribe or a flat head screw driver, carefully pry up the hinge cover.

Step 3

  • Carefully loosen the hinge cover clips.
  • Using a scribe or a flat head screw driver, carefully pry up the hinge cover.

Remove the 2 bottom hinge screws.

Step 4

  • Remove the 11 bottom palmrest screws.
  • Remove the 2 bottom hinge screws.
Remove the 2 bottom hinge screws. Remove the 11 bottom palmrest screws.
Press in the 4 keyboard clips to loosen the keyboard.

Step 5

  • Turn the laptop over and open it up.
  • Press in the 4 keyboard clips to loosen the keyboard.
Unplug the keyboard cable.

Step 6

  • Carefully lift the keyboard and turn it over.
  • Unplug the keyboard cable.
  • Unplug and loosen the antenna cables.
Unplug the keyboard cable. Unplug and loosen the antenna cables.
Loosen the 2 top palmrest screws. You will not be able to remove them completely.

Step 7

  • Loosen the 2 top palmrest screws. You will not be able to remove them completely.
Carefully unsnap and lift off the palmrest.

Step 8

  • Unplug the 2 palmrest cables.
  • Carefully unsnap and lift off the palmrest.
Unplug and loosen the LCD cable.

Step 9

  • Unplug and loosen the LCD cable.
Lift the screen away from the laptop base.

Step 10

  • Remove the 4 hinge screws.
  • Lift the screen away from the laptop base.
Unplug the DC jack.

Step 11

  • Remove the screw that holds the DC jack cover plate.
  • Unplug the DC jack.
Unplug the DC jack.Remove the screw that holds the DC jack cover plate.
Remove the DC jack from the base.

Step 12

  • Remove the DC jack from the base.
