E03 – Android Wine, Rumba Ipad Cleaner, and Kim Dotcom: The Red-Headed Geek Show

This weeks topics presented by the Red-Headed Geek (me!) include Wine coming to the Android phone, an alternative to the Sticky-Note, silly inventions that I enjoyed making fun of, some memorials of tech icons, and the Free Wifi rumor exposed!

The popular, windows app emulator WINE is going to be available for those who use Android gadgets. This means, for those who enjoy PC apps, they will soon be able to bring them to their mobile devices! Not yet, but soon!

I wanted to follow up on Kim Dotcom, even though I am quite sick of him. He is so confident in his new site, Mega.com, that he is offering a $13,500 bounty for the first hacker to break the security system in his site. We shall see!

As far as the topic of “free” Wifi across the country, it is not happening. Not only was it a rather dreamy idea to begin with, it was a complete rumor. Nothing is free people, and for Wifi to even work there must be someone controlling the bandwidth. Guess what? That costs money! If no one controlled this, the internet connections could become unreliable and jammed, I am positive it would annoy the majority of America.  We live off the internet!

Memorial moments for those who have passed this week in tech history. Andre Cassagnes, the inventor of the Etch-A-Sketch, died at the age of 86. In addition, Stephan Kudelski, a polish engineer who invented the iconic Nagra III, died at 83. The Nagra III was a portable tape recorder used in countless films for decades. Finally, the Sony product called the Mini Disc, will no longer continue to be produced as soon as March of this year. Back in the day it was an awesome tool for audio recording, but like most things, the big boys soon come to overshadow the little ones. In this case, it was the CDR and MP3.

There is an interesting new product being developed by Intellipaper. Its an amazing, disposable USB Flash Drive! Its not only environmentally a sweetie, but it is about as thin as card stock, has small electrical contacts on the outside, and when folded can easily fit into a regular USB port. That is right! It is made of paper, so it can hold data on the outside AND inside with the help of small pieces of silicon that can store up to 32 megabytes of data! See our article on Parts-People.com for more information!

For my wild and wacky segment I went through a few inventions that cracked me up. There is a new weight loss tool called “Breezing”. Breezing measures your metabolism when you blow in it. It does this by tracking your rate of CO2 and O2 consumption, allowing it to display information, through your cell phone or other device, regarding what type of energy you are burning the most, carbohydrates or fats!

Another silly invention is more of a joke than anything. That's why I love it. Its a roomba to clean your I pad or cell phone. I think that is all I really need to say about that one.

Lastly, an OLED screen that fits on your finger. Why, you say? Because when texting or typing on your cell phone your vision of the character you are typing is usually blocked by your finger. This silly gizmo allows the character to be displayed on top of your finger. Texting is such a pain anyways, how bout this chunky finger pal? Is it just me, or would I never use any of these products? Thanks for reading, watching and listening! See you next week!
