Google and Apple On the Road to Develop Own Gaming Consoles

google-vs-appleAccording to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Google Inc. is in the development phase of creating their very own gaming console. Not only that, but a wristwatch is expected as well; both based on Google's Android OS. With no names and no dates just yet, it has been announced that as soon as Fall of this year we could expect at least one of these two on the market. Being the world's most popular software system for mobile devices, why wouldn't Google keep taking steps forward? I truly can't think of another company with more on their plate.

The console is alleged to be “Ouya-like”, a console born from Kickstarter that is both affordable itself and for compatible games. Just like any other console, however, an Android device is only as great as it's content. Designing and marketing the watch and system are being done all by Google itself. Interestingly enough, Apple has such similar plans on the horizon and undoubtedly it is being seen as Google's way to combat Apple's endeavors. Talk about competition right? Both companies not only going the wristwatch route, but a gaming console? Don't we have enough already?

Gaming consoles such as the WiiU, Xbox and Playstation create completely different experiences than what could come from Apple or Google. It is hard to expect how this would turn out considering console sales and video game software have been on a downhill slide. The strategy would be altering the Apple and Android devices you already own into a gaming console simply with a plug-in or attachment. So maybe the idea is, if you have their device, they can get you gaming?

gaming-devicesHaving an on-the-other-hand thought, could affordable and easy to alter gaming machines such as these be just the right thing for the gaming market? It is a huge change for sure, but what about those who opt to not spend hundreds of dollars on consoles and sixty per game? Doesn’t using your own device for similar pleasure sound lovely? Maybe it could be for some, which is the entire point in taking such leaps as these. Some risks are worth being taken, that has been proven in technology time and time again.

Especially with the right price and features, Google could make a mark in the gaming universe. But could it take a chunk out of console sales? Something to think about, especially when considering the effort and serious financial push they are willing to immediately take! Moreover, the way Android took over the smart device market and Google the search engine, could Google do the same for gaming? Apple? For both companies, a video game console could give a tremendous opportunity for expansion beyond just it's domination in smart devices.
