E48- Larger iPhones, Blackberry Rumors, Google Sensors, WiFi And Cancer | Red Headed Geek Show

In an address published today, Pope Francis described the internet as a "Gift from God". Dear Pope: You are aware the internet is a human invention, correct? Yep. He knows that. He acknowledges that it brings humans together, we can communicate and see each other. It’s a great place for us. Google, of course bought Nest, which has caused a lot of reaction because this is more than just another buyout, just at the top of my head they've gotten behind about 200 companies. They huge. Its the latest and greatest validation that Googles happiness increases with the amount of sensor related companies they can get their hands on.

If there's anything Google does best, its having access to your data. Sensors are the core of Google's business. So, many reactions have been: "What is Google's intent with this?” “The takeaways and drawbacks from the Nest purchase.” “Why the Nest purchase infinitely means more intelligent devices". Is Google becoming a “Green” company because they bought over 75 million in Texas windfarms? Is it more sufficient to say that Google is an everything company?

Apple is finally sizing up their devices. But do we even want them to? The company is planning to release two new iPhones just this year! Sounds like they're in the mood for some competition with Samsung and other big-screened devices! One model is said to be larger than 4.5 inches, while the other larger than 5! Eek! Is is just me or are the iphone screen sizes just right? If we wanted something bigger wouldn't we switch to another company? Well, according to the company, bigger phones are popular in Asia, where apple is searching for growth. I get it! So an apple phablet? Would you stick to your comfort zone or go for it?

Could it be? Blackberry making a comeback?? Did Blackberry just become rescued from complete oblivion? No. But The U.S Department of Defense is about to roll out a fancy new wireless network, and the primary device it wants to use on it are BlackBerry handsets. More than 80,000 BlackBerrys will be supported on the new network. Just to compare, a mere 18 hundred iOS and Android devices are to be initially supported on the new network. Blackberry is much more difficult to penetrate from the outside than others. Plus their mail servers are known to be heavily encrypted. I cannot help but wonder how much bigger Blackberry would be if they didn't try to go the consumer route and just stuck with businesses and government agencies this whole time!

EDIT: Updates rolled in early this morning (1/24) that the Pentagon is not in fact ordering 80 thousand Blackberry phones for business.

Finally, Rumors are saying WiFi causes cancer now! How do we know? Well, the internet says it is bad for children and some are even fighting for WiFi to stay in schools.“WiFi”, to you and me, is being called a cancer-causing threat. But, isn't everything? Emails from all over the world are expressing concern about the dangers of WiFi in schools. As a result, a school in New Zealand has decided to remove WiFi from junior classes and replace it with cable based internet. Good idea, because cables have never hurt anyone in human history!
