E3: Microsoft, Sony, & Nintendo Announce Anticipated Titles, Who Is the Clear Winner?

E32014The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) happens each year at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Big time software and hardware companies come to the trade show to show off video games, game consoles, personal computers, and the Internet. The three biggest competitors include Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

Microsoft: Microsoft made sure to talk about nothing but games; announcing some very anticipated exclusives, including a re-mastered compilation including all Halo games. There was also a mention of Halo 5, racing game sequel Forza Horizon 2, and punk rock adventure, Sunset Overdrive.

E32014-1The makers of Halo: Combat Evolved, Bungie, announced Destiny, a game set in a universe where mankind is on the precipice of extinction. You, the player, are the last hope there is of fending off a menace determined to end you. Players are offered single and cooperative missions; there are also some MMO elements built-in.

Sony: Sony wasn’t sleeping during this whole show. In fact, it was probably saddling up to show fans some highly anticipated titles. Announcements included Little Big Planet 3, horror adventure Bloodborne, from the Dark Souls creator, and an indie sci-fi adventure No Man’s Sky. Sony also briefly mentioned its VR helmet, Morpheus. There is not much to go on yet because we have to wait another year at least to see these commercially.

E32014-2The PS TV, the portable console is in America! For only 99 bucks, too! I think this was a good move by Sony. Used to be called Vita TV. It is now called Playstation TV. The device is super small and compact, streams PlayStation Now games, and can act as a remote hub for your PlayStation 4 so you can play your games in another room.

Nintendo: A surprisingly nice performance came from Nintendo. I know we are all pretty disheartened with the Wii U launch being pretty crappy, but hey, no one dislikes that more than Nintendo. A new brand, called Splatoon, is a family-friendly online shooter that involves paintballs, and octopus ink. Everyone seems super happy about The Legend Of Zelda, Starfox, Mario Party 10, and Super Smash Bros., which now has a funny option of integrating your own Mii into a fight. These were all big titles people wanted to see.

Conclusion: Speaking of a fight, if Microsoft and Sony were up against each other at E3, I think it is safe to say Sony won. With super exciting new titles, and a new mini console that I didn’t see coming, Sony has a lot for us to look forward to. Nintendo, on the other hand, could beat both other companies depending on which way you look at it. Besides fulfilling the hunger of its biggest fans, Nintendo also revealed its games with a unique, innovative Digital Event. Many say it was a smooth presentation that won the hearts of many.
