Lumia 830 Uses Premium Specs and Price to Take on Rivals


Lumina830During Microsoft's chance to shine at the IFA 2014 tradeshow, the Nokia Lumia 830, also described as the most affordable Windows Phone flagship yet, was unveiled. The smartphone is being hailed as possibly taking on rivals Samsung and Apple, as far as premium features go. We first heard about the Lumia 830 soon after Microsoft's decision to purchase Nokia over a year ago. Microsoft has always seemed to struggle to make its case in the smartphone platform, but this could be just the trick to get the company into the market share so dominated by iPhones and Samsung devices.

SAMSUNG CSCThe 5-inched Lumia 830 has a 1280 x 720p resolution , is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, has a removable 2,200 mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. It also comes with 15GB of free One Drive cloud space. Its 10 megapixel PureView camera comes with a Zeiss lens, and optical image stabilization (OIS). Measuring 8.5mm thick and weighing 150g, this device is by far one of the lightest Lumia phones. The handset measures 139x70x8.5mm from top to bottom, and and fits comfortably in the hand. Four available color variants include green, white, black, and orange.

SAMSUNG CSCChris Weber, Microsoft's corporate VP of mobile devices sales says, “Our goal is to call out Apple and Samsung in terms of the premium they're charging. Judged by hardware specifications, the Lumia 830 is on par with its flagship equivalents from rivals”. The device is expected to launch in September, and will retail for 330 Euros ($434 US). With the Lumia 830 being the “thinnest and lightest” high-end Windows phone yet, all at an affordable price, people are going to notice this. Oh the times they are a changing.
