As technology gets bigger and our gadgets get smarter, it has become increasingly crucial to care about our privacy. Today, we suffer from invasive advertising, spying governments, and hackers, such as the recent Bash Bug, that just enjoy screwing with us. One option is to go with Tor, the Web protector that can encrypt traffic and bounce it along different computers in the world. But what if we want more than protection from Web browsing? Completely changing up your browsing could be a bummer, so why not try a tiny Wi-Fi router that directs all your traffic through the Tor network? Named Anonabox and already kicking its goal on Kickstarter (raising 50 times its target), this tiny little $45 box anonymizes all your traffic for you.

Creators August Gemar and his team designed Anonabox to “skirt censorship” while users chat and email anonymously. The good thing about the size, which is easily concealed at only 2.4 inch by 1.6 inches, is you can take the device with you anywhere you want to use the internet while keeping your privacy safe. It works by hiding vulnerable information, such as the current user’s log-in, last visited URL, IP address and anything else disclosed during your session (The Guardian). Further, any outside access is incapable of getting into your laptop or PC thanks to Anonabox’s default firewall configuration.

Anonabox, in all its tiny glory, packs 64 megabytes of storage and a 580 megahertz processor (Wired). All you do is plug it in. There is no software to install, no registration, no nothing. The team does warn, however, that Anonabox isn’t “much use for torrenting, thanks to Tor’s sluggish download speeds”- so stick to browsing, and forget about downloading. Good news is, services such as Skype, Safari and Filezilla, which were never supported by Tor, are now supported and easy to use. There have been previous attempts at Tor routers, yet most have gone awry due to their less portable sizes, and hefty price tags.

With over 7,000 backers and over $576,000 in funding, the makers of Anonabox are excited to launch their product. Due to increasing popularity and demand, the company is currently seeking more testers who will hand test each box before shipping to customers. The system is also open source; and thanks to the product's success, Gemar hopes to use the extra funding to get Anonaboxes in the hands of more developers soon.
