HP Promises High Performance Gaming in Slim Omen Laptop

HpOmenGamingLaptopFor a while now, since the 90's actually, we've considered a brand called VoodooPC when thinking about gaming computers. HP picked up the brand in 2006, but now, Voodoo is long since gone. Now, HP decided to build its very own serious gaming laptop, while drawing from the bloodlines of VoodooPC for inspiration. To compete against the likes of super popular brands like Alienware, Asus, and Razer, HP is bringing on the Omen laptop, claiming it has game-ready features for a “very picky audience”.

HpOmenGamingLaptop1Of the features, performance has to be right. The 4.68 pound, 15.6-inch gaming laptop has a 1080p touchscreen (sticking to 1080p keeps heat low and battery life high), measures only .78-inches at its thickest point, and is powered by a 58WHr lithium ion battery. Inside lives an Intel Core i7 CPU processor, a Nvidia GTX 860M GPU, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and 2GB of DDR5 RAM (Cnet).

Made of an anodized aluminum chassis, HP says the Omen's cooling solution makes a difference. Besides a “fully ventilated bottom panel, dual intake fans pull in cold air from the front, and hot air exhausts out the back of the unit” (PC World). The laptop's chromed hinge is even raised a bit to to get correct airflow, and push exhaust away. The edges of the laptop are tapered with speakers. Therefore, connection ports are left for the rear of the device; where the HDMI, the 4 USB 3.0's, a Mini Display Port, and a headset jack sit (Gizmodo).

HpOmenGamingLaptop2The basic configuration Omen, running for $1,500, comes with everything mentioned above plus a 128GB SSD. Upgraded versions include the $1,600 model with 256GB SSD with PCle, and the $1,700 model with 4GB of DDR memory for the GPU (PC World). It goes even higher, as you can imagine. Gamers love their high-end gaming PCs, and in this case, laptops. You can pre order the Omen right now from the Microsoft store.
