Ditto, The Simplest $29 Wearable Out There

SimpleMattersDitto1In a generation where phone calls, emails, instant messages and all forms of social media content are sent to our smartphones, the amount of notifications we receive can have us checking our phones constantly. California based company, Simple Matters, intends to change that with its first Kickstarter-funded product, simply named, Ditto.

SimpleMattersDittoFor only $29, this 8-gram pod acts as a remote receiver device that interfaces with your smartphone. Using a companion app (iOS or Android), ditto can be programmed to alert you to only those notifications that you have deemed important, such as your spouse or babysitter calling. When an important notification occurs, ditto will begin vibrating to alert you. Different vibration patterns can be programmed for different callers, such as a short burst for your spouse, or two long bursts if your boss calls. Ditto features no LED’s or display, only a battery, Bluetooth module, and a vibration motor (Geek).

SimpleMattersDitto2That’s not all it can do. Ditto will also warn you if your phone goes out of range thanks to its Bluetooth proximity system. Wandering away from ditto, at a range of up to 100 feet, will trigger Ditto’s alert. It also features a vibrating alarm that will only wake the person using it. Ditto is also waterproof, and its battery lasts from four to six months. Ditto can be clipped to your clothing, comfortably fit in your pocket, or can be worn like a watch via wristband.

Simple Matters currently is seeking funding through a Kickstarter campaign fundraiser, which is currently about $30,000 short of its $100,000 goal. Designer Bob Olodort has stated that he mainly wanted the fundraiser to generate publicity, and that Simple Matters would begin production of Ditto regardless of whether or not it reaches the funding amount by the deadline (Ubergizmo). Thousands of dollars won’t hurt, however. If all goes well, Simple Matters will release Ditto early next year.
