5 Stocking Stuffers worth Geeking Out over This Year

Nothing seems to put a dent in my holiday spirit like Christmas shopping. While the act of choosing a gift for someone I care about brings me pure, unadulterated joy, finding “that something special”, a unique idea for something they will enjoy, do not yet have, and would not likely buy for themselves fills me with anxiety. Add in the throngs of stressed-out shoppers all striving to accomplish the same task and you have all the necessary ingredients to be in full-on Grinch mode before the holidays even get here. To make this season a little easier, I’ve compiled a list of five easy stocking stuffers that are sure to satisfy the geek in almost anyone.

Motorola KeyLink

MotorolaKeyLink1People looking for a gift for me, take note of this little dongle. I am the person for whom the phrase “She’d lose her head if it wasn’t attached” was coined. The KeyLink takes some of the pressure off of you when it comes to keeping track of the two things people lose the most - their keys and phones - and forces them to keep track of each other. And at $24.99, this little helper is a steal of a deal.

Flux Capacitor Car Charger

FluxCapacitorChargerThis little gadget falls into the category of “for the guy that has everything”. It looks like your basic USB car charger from the back, with two ports for dual-device charging on the go. But when you plug in the Flux Capacitor charger and turn it on, it flashes the famous Flux Capacitor light pattern seen in the Delorean in Back to the Future. Packed with nostalgia, this little blast from the past will only set you back $25.

LIX 3D Pen

LixPen1This amazing little gift idea is currently the smallest 3D printing pen in the world and allows you to literally “doodle in the air”. Whether you have a niece or nephew who is into design, a mom who loves arts and crafts or a co-worker you like more than the rest (who will hopefully let you play with it at work), the LIX 3D Pen is an all-around crowd pleaser. It was one of our favorite Kickstarter projects earlier in the year, and is now available for purchase for just under $100.

Moxie Showerhead + Wireless Speaker

MoxieShowerheadSure, we all sing in the shower, but it’s a lot more enjoyable if your voice is at least partially drowned out by the song you’re poorly emulating. Kohler’s got you covered with their new Moxie showerhead, a removable, magnetically docked speaker that connects to your smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth to give your shower show a solid backing band. The standard version will set you back $199, and if you’re looking to make a real splash with someone in your shower, the Moxie rainhead + wireless speaker is available for a little more.

Google Chromecast

chromecastAt only $35 and small enough to stuff into any stocking, the Chromecast is probably the cheapest and easiest way to upgrade a dumb TV to a smart one. Once plugged into the HDMI port on a television, programs can be cast right on the TV screen from nearly any smartphone or tablet. With access to programming from HBO GO, Netflix, WatchESPN, Showtime Anytime, YouTube, Hulu and tons more, this is an ideal gift for anyone who enjoys television.
