Just yesterday, I covered the new line of super-thin and light LaVie laptops from Lenovo. Tech giants participating in CES are sure bringing it this year, because now Dell has come forward with its NEW insanely thin XPS 13 line of laptops. Despite the new LaVie laptop weighing just half of the Mac Book Air, Dell's new XPS seems determined to outshine that particular competitor even more. For a company that doesn't tend to push out the sleekest looking laptops, the XPS 13 arrived looking like the “thinnest, lightest, and coolest laptop ever” (PC World). The most obvious change in appearance is the extremely thin bezel, something that not only looks lovely but contributes to the device's weight loss.

Particularly, the XPS 13 has a 13.3-inch display, packed into just 2.6 pounds, thanks to its silky carbon fiber housing, sandwiched between aluminum. It does not beat Lenovo's LaVie HZ550, which weighed in at a mere 1.72 pounds. But that's okay. Dell makes up for this lack of starvation (get it, because it's so thin?) by having a touchscreen with fantastic display quality; a Quad HD+ resolution to be exact, with 3,200 x 1,800 pixels (Fox News). Remember the Mac Book Air? That thing? It's only got 1,440 x 900 pixels, and a no-touch display. Points for Dell!

Running on Intel's 5th gen Broadwell U Core chip (ranging from 2.1GHz core i3to 3.2 GHz core i7), the XPS 13 will run Windows 8.1, push out some awesome graphics performance and longer battery life than we’ve seen with past laptops. That battery life is actually great, around 15 hours on a single charge-that's a lot better than Lenovo's 7-8 hours on the LaVie series.

It's funny to think of Dell's first XPS 13 model, which had a crappy 1,366 x 768 display. According to Gizmodo, even the second and third gens sucked because of poor battery performance, and lack of SD card slot. Still running about $1,000, the new Dell XPS 13 really has quality specs going for it. Its floating display is like gold. It's got physical beauty, significant progression in power and speed, all with a battery that can handle it. Plus, the ability to pick it up with a couple fingers has gotta be awesome.
