Dell Made a Chromebook 11 Just for Students, Made of Plastic

Chromebook11The already highly popular Dell Chromebook 11 (award winner at CES, actually) has a Version 2.0, and it's not for everyone. It's designed for the student population, as Dell is looking to further invade the education sector by providing a cheap array of options (the company also released the Venue 10, Venue10 Pro, and Latitude Education Series laptop for schools). Still, the Chromebook 11 is the most notable, mainly because Chromebooks across the board are proving to be popular in the school sector. From it's plastic exterior to Gorilla Glass display, Dell's Chromebook 11 is described as being “schoolyard tough”.

Chromebook11-2Kids can be careless, so Dell had to seriously take that into consideration when designing a school laptop. How about a 180-degree hinge for even the worst case scenario (dangling the poor thing by its screen)? But what's a laptop that can bend if it's going to shatter? Let us not forget that Dell's original Chromebook has something seriously lovely going for it, assisting in the consumer obsession, and that's build quality. The reason for the Dell Chromebook 11 being perfect for education is made from plastic, through and through. The plastic is expected to withstand the worst punishment, including spills, drops, and scrapes, better than other materials at least (Gizmodo).

Chromebook11-1The laptop runs on a dual-core Intel Bay Trail processor, sports 2GB-4GB of RAM, 16GB of internal flash storage, and runs on a 43 Whr battery capable of 10 hours of use. It's got an 11.6-inch, 1,366 x 768 display covered in Gorilla Glass, and has a 720p front-facing webcam (Engadget). Also, something extra cute- a “Interactivity Light” was placed on the back lid to indicate a student is “raising their virtual hand” to ask a question. Yeah, because teachers are more apt to see a small colorful bar than a child's hand in the air. But, nice try Dell.
