Microsoft Helps HP Design New Convertible Spectre x360

HpSpectreX360Monday, at the Mobile World Congress, HP unveiled a new “premium” convertible PC in its high-end Spectre series. The Spectre x360, which has been a project 1 ½ years in the making, is an exciting collaboration design with none other than, Microsoft! Intended to go up against the very popular and beautifully designed MacBook Pro and Lenovo Yoga series, the x360 is expected to be quite the premium new laptop. The two companies obsessed over every detail of this thing, so it's hard to imagine anything less.

It features a 13.3-inch touch display, and like most hybrids, hinges for folding into a clamshell laptop, tent mode, flat surface mode, and tablet mode. The difference here is what HP calls a “synchronous orbit”. Instead of dual-axle friction hinges, it uses a 360-degree hinge that actually folds into itself using three interlocking gears (Engadget).

With a couple configuration options, the Spectre x360 comes in either full or Quad HD resolution, with 1,920 x 1,080 or 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, and a 72 percent color gamut (Engadget). The keyboard is said to be comfortable, well-spaced, and have a minimalist appeal. HP fit in a 56Wh battery, allowing for 12.5 hours of running time on a single charge, proved to be true when tested by Cnet (Tech Times).

At $899 for the entry-level model, the x360 comes with 4GB of RAM, 128 GB of SSD storage. The $999 version, sporting a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, doubles the RAM and hard drive space. Both of these models are available now, with word of an Intel i7 model coming soon.
