Apple’s New 12-Inch MacBook Is Super Light for All the Right Reasons

MacBook12InchAt Apple's Spring Forward event today, the company announced an incredibly light 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display. This comes at a time when Apple has already been doing great, announcing new PCs, and enjoying customer anticipation of the next gen iPad (if we ever get one). The MacBook Air, in all its flawless design, hasn't really needed a change in years. Anyone who owns one knows this. It's super thin and light, and probably the sleekest looking thing you own. But because Apple likes to be fancy and release Grade A stuff, it decided to revamp its MacBook and see what we think.

MacBook12Inch1The less than 2lb MacBook has a 12-inch retina screen, and a 13.1mm thick all metal body that comes in three colors- silver, gold, or space gray. It's weight and size is considered “ridiculously thin” by The Verge, and considers its 12-inch design to distribute the weight in a way that makes it feel even lighter. Further, this is Apple's thinnest display ever built into a Mac, a double whammy as it consumes 30 percent less energy. It also has new keyboard that is 40 percent thinner than the traditional kind, and reportedly feels a lot different than any other keyboard Apple has used thus far (Mashable).

MacBook12Inch2One interesting alteration includes the company's decision to dump virtually every conventional port, including Thunderbold, SD, and power connector; and instead, using one simple USB Type-C for everything. This is another change responsible for making the new MacBook 24 percent lighter than the MacBook Air.

MacBook12Inch3The final contribution to the lightness: this thing is fanless. Performance wise, it runs Intel's Core M processor, running up to 1.3GHz, and only consumes 5 watts of power thanks to the company's new terraced, contoured cells design (Mashable).

Prices start at $1,299 for a base model with 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD; to $1,600 for a slightly faster processor, and a 512GB SSD. Both models are available now.
