Dell’s Venue 8 7000 Tablet-Thin, Bezel Design, Long Battery

DellVenue8-7000-032315Remember when the Dell Venue 8 7000 was first announced? I barely do either. It was over a year ago, back in January of 2014. Details were sparse but that didn't mean we weren't excited about the super slim tablet. One reason for looking forward to this tablet was its design. Dell deserves some credit when it comes to mixing things up and busting out new devices. Especially when you think about Apple, which, seems to just produce new, more expensive versions of previous gen models. Plus, why not throw us a surprise after taking the company private last year; a surprise that's being called the most impressively built Android tablet to date?

DellVenue8-7000-032315-1The first thing you'll notice about the Dell Venue 8 is its stunning OLED display on its teeny tiny 8.4 inch long, 6mm-thick frame, made of solid machined aluminum. It weighs just 306 grams, and is thinner than the iPad Air 2. It has an amazing Quad HD display, measuring 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, and is essentially bezel-less (Pro PC). All that is just wonderful. One thing that isn't so perfect is the placement of both the speakers and camera, which for some reason are located at the bottom chin of the tablet. This means your natural holding position covers up both of them. Why you gotta do that, Dell?

DellVenue8-7000-032315-2Other specs point towards a pretty high-end device. It's powered by an Intel Atom Z3580 Quad Core Atom processor, comes with 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of NAND, runs Android's KitKat OS (with Lollipop coming soon), and sports a 5900mAh battery that will keep you watching for about 9.4 hours, with a full life span of about 12. Additionally, there's a microSD slot supporting up to 512GB of storage, a 2MP webcam, a standard microUSB for charging and data transfer (Engadget). It's processor came with more than respectable benchmark results, but that microSD sure does save, because Dell took a pretty crappy approach to on board storage with this tablet.

For $499, that limited storage issue still might tick you off. But if you are in love with the bezel design, display, and long lasting battery like I am, you'll deal. This thing is pretty premium. Dell also offers an optional wireless keyboard/case as an accessory, if you're into that sort of thing.
