What We Know About Acer’s New Predator Line of Gaming Devices

AcerPredatorLineThis week, during the company's press conference, Acer announced a new line of gaming devices including a monitor, 2 notebooks, a tablet, and a desktop computer. You may know that Acer hasn't really been a gaming company up until recently. But CEO Jason Chen claims that the company's great success with its V Nitro line has been part of the encouragement to go on with another series based on gaming. I'd say 5 new gaming devices is a good strategy in getting our attention.

AcerPredatorLine1Starting off with the Predator X35 gaming monitor, which in its 35 inches, sports a super wide 21:9 aspect ratio, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and smooth playback featuring Nvidia's G-SYNC technology. Sound should be up to par with a total of 9W speakers, and there are plenty of connectivity ports to keep it multifunctional; including five USB 3.0's, two HDMI's, as well as a DisplayPort In, and DisplayPort out (Tom's Guide).

AcerPredatorLine2Not too much is known about the other devices except basics. The 8-inch Predator Tablet will feature four speakers built into all four corners for “surround sound”, and haptic feedback like shaking during gameplay. It is rumored to run on Android, and come with basic tablet features and connectivity like front and rear-facing cameras, a headphone jack, and microSD for storage.

AcerPredatorLine3The Predator laptops, notebooks actually, will come in 15-inch and 17-inch variants. Remember these are catered to gamers, which is why they will feature programmable buttons, customizable for whatever game you play. Ports will include HDMI, DisplayPort, SD slot, headphone and microphone jacks, four USB 3.0's, and a USB Type-C port. There will also be movement keys, and a “massive” cooling system with giant vents across the back of the notebook, according to The Verge. This of course suggests some powerful graphics cards to be present, but we don't know what they are yet.

Finally, there is the striking Acer Predator gaming PC, which may resemble the design of some Alienware cases for some. Connectivity on the front will include two USB's, SD slot, microphone and headphone jacks . The only rumor I could find for what graphics to find inside is “at least an Nvidia GTX 980”, according to Tom's Guide. These are are all mock-ups of the finalized designs. So, it looks like we will just have to wait and see just how much the processing power and graphics quality will live up to the aggressive aesthetics of all these Acer devices, and those details should be revealed later this year.
